1. What are the Training courses available for Tableau users?

Tableau Developer, Tableau Interactor and Tableau Viewer

2. Is Tableau Developer Training mandatory to obtain Enterprise Tableau Developer license?

Yes, it is mandatory for the users who does not have prior knowledge or experience on "Tableau Desktop" application. Users with prior experience can register for Tableau Developer Skills Assessment instead of going through entire training.

3. What is the difference between Tableau Developer Training and Tableau Developer Skills Assessment?

Tableau Developer Training is a set of practical exercises that developer need to go through to apply for license. Tableau Developer Skills Assessment is a set of questions that developer need to answer to apply for license. 

4. How long does it take to receive approval on Training?

It usually takes around '1' to '2' business days to receive approval. You will get approval confirmation email from [email protected]

5. How do we extend the Trial Key of Tableau Desktop license to practice Tableau Developer Training exercises?

6. Is it mandatory to register for Tableau Interactor or Tableau Viewer trainings to apply for their roles?

These trainings are optional but is recommended if you are playing either of these roles. 

7. Do Tableau Developer publish Workbooks and Data Sources to Tableau Server Production Site?

Tableau Developer is not allowed to publish any content to Tableau Server Production Site

8. Do Tableau Interactor or Viewer have access to Citrix Tableau Environment?

Tableau Interactor or Viewer is not authorized to access Citrix Tableau Environment. This environment is only accessible to authorized Tableau Developers. 

9. Do you allow custom roles and permissions on Tableau Server?

Custom roles and permissions are not allowed. 

10. What role a Tableau Developer gets on Tableau Server Production Site?

Tableau Developer may get "Interactor" role on the Tableau Server Production Site

11. How long does it take to obtain Enterprise Tableau Developer License?

Tableau License is usually granted in '2' to '3' business days once the developer submits Tableau LARF with all required information and is approved by their manager. 

12. Do we need to download and install Tableau software on our machines?

No need to download and install Tableau software on your local machines.

Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep applications are hosted on Tableau Citrix Environment. Once you obtain a license, these applications can be accessed using standard web browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer etc. For more information, refer Step 5 

13. My department owns a Tableau Desktop/Creator License. Can we convert it to Enterprise Tableau Developer License?

14. Can we install and setup Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep applications in local machine with Enterprise Tableau Developer License?

No, you can't. These applications are only accessible from the Tableau Citrix Environment

15. Does it cost to obtain Tableau Interactor or Viewer access on Tableau Server?

Tableau Interactor and Viewer access is free of cost.

16. Can we access Tableau File Explorer (Citrix) on Mac operating system?

Yes, we can but you need to install and setup compatiable Citrix Receiver on your machine. You can find software here: Link 

17. My machine already have old version of Citrix Receiver installed. Can we use it to acess Tableau Desktop?

Please uninstall old version and install the latest version before accessing Tableau Desktop. You can find latest software here: Link

18. When i click on Tableau Explorer icon, it is taking around '20' to '30' seconds to launch the aplication. Why there is a delay?

This is an expected behavior. Since the Tableau Explorer is hosted remotely on Citrix platform, it usually takes '20' to '30' seconds to launch Tableau File Explorer after you click on the icon. 

19. Can we access Tableau Desktop (Citrix) on Mac operating system?

Yes, we can but you need to install and setup compatiable Citrix Receiver on your machine. You can find software here: Link

22. What is (U:) drive?

This drive is used as "Personal Drive" and also used as a "Repository" for Tableau Desktop application. 

23. What is the difference between Development and QA sites?

Development is only intended to use by "Tableau Developers" to publish and test the initially developed copies of Dashboards and Data Sources. This site is used to perform unit testing before publishing the content to QA Site to share with Interactors and Viewers.

QA site is used to share Dashboards with Interactors and Viewers. This site is explictly used to perform User Acceptance Testing before promoting the dashboards to Production site for larger audience.  

24. Can Tableau Developer have access to all the Projects on Development or QA site?

No, Developers are only allowed to access Projects they are authorized to access. 

25. Can Tableau Developer create new Projects on Development or QA site?

No, Developers are not authorized to create new projects. 

26. What are the data sources supported by Tableau Desktop?

Tableau Desktop supports varierty of data sources. For complete list, please refer: link

27. Why am i not able to connect to my database server from Citrix Tableau Environment?

It could be because of the firewall restrictions defined on the database server side. Please contact your server administrator and remove those firewall restrictions for any incoming connections from Citrix Tableau Environment, Tableau Server (Development and QA). Please contact [email protected] to get the Tableau server details.  

28. What do we save Tableau Workbooks and other files related to development?

All the files related to your department must be saved in the "Tableau_Projects" folder in the Tableau File Explorer

29. What is the use of (U:) drive?

This drive is used as a personal drive and as a default repository for Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep applications.
