At UCSF, we recognize data as a critical asset and are committed to leveraging it to advance our mission in research, education, and patient care. Our vision is to establish a single source of truth, comprised of accurate and consistent data, to guide informed decision-making. In an era of increasing data flow, we strive to distinguish meaningful signals from noise by delivering clear and insightful information to the appropriate audiences. We are dedicated to enhancing our enterprise data capabilities to support our research, education, and patient care mission areas, ensuring a cohesive approach to data utilization.
To achieve our vision, we have developed UCSF Scuba, an enterprise data ecosystem offering capabilities such as an enterprise data lake, data warehouse, data catalog, artificial intelligence (AI) cloud, data governance, and master data management. The data lake and warehouse serve as a single point of entry for all shared raw and curated data assets at the institution. The raw data enable novel analytics solutions, while the curated data ensure consistent answers and promote best practices. The catalog allows users to find reports and data assets across the enterprise. With its cloud architecture, UCSF Scuba provides a secure environment to access data and train AI models using UCSF Versa and other AI platforms. The data governance and master data management capabilities establish standard metric definitions, data sharing guidelines, and compliance policies. Access to UCSF Scuba is governed by UCSF’s data policies. Log in to the UCSF Scuba Portal for more details.
