The “2022 Research Data Series” via Zoom, serves the purpose of disseminating important information about UCSF’s rich offerings for research data resources.  Slides and videos will be available for online on-demand viewing and reference after each event.

March 18, 12 - 1 PM   |   EHR Data for Research at UCSF 

The Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics Digital Health Initiative will host this session on March 18, Noon-1 PM via Zoom. Join us and hear from faculty members Courtney Lyles and Mark Pletcher as they cover electronic health record (EHR) data available at UCSF, how-to's, and research examples using identified and de-identified EHR data.​ This interactive session will cover best practices for using EHR data and FAQs about access and analysis.

April 6, 12-1 PM   |  PHDI Medicare Mini-Series: Session 1: Introduction to Medicare data, the UCSF re-use program, data access

Join us for the first of three sessions hosted by the PopHealth Data Initiative dedicated to accessing Medicare Claims data available for reuse.  Our first session focuses on an overview of the data sets available and how to access them via our dedicated PopHealth Premium Server in RAE.  Sessions in May and April will bring researchers in to share their research projects using Medicare data and a dedicated session to help you brainstorm how Medicare Claims can be used for your research.

April 7, 3:30-5 PM   |  UCSF cBioPortal: Linking genomic and clinical data for cancer discovery 

The Cancer Cell Map Initiative will host this instructional session on UCSF's instance of cBioPortal, which has panel-based sequencing data on tumors from ~8,000 cancer patients. cBioPortal is a user-friendly, web-based platform for visualizing, exploring, and analyzing cancer molecular datasets. Topics will include demonstrating some of the more advanced features of the UCSF cBioPortal, understanding the data currently available, and what data can be downloaded from the portal and linked with other research assets.

May 4, 12-1 PM   |  PHDI Medicare Mini-Series: Session 2: Medicare Research at UCSF

The Population Health Data Initiative will host a session on accessing Medicare and other claims data. The Population Health Data Initiative provides low-cost and no-cost access to insurance claims data for Medicare and commercial insurance. Claims data are nationwide and ideal for many population health, epidemiological, and cost studies. June 10, 12-1 PM   |  California state-wide discharge data and hospital financial data for research 

California’s Department of Health Care Access and Information (formerly the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) has collected data on discharges from California hospitals for 30 years, including short-term acute, long-term acute, and specialty hospitals. They also collect data on emergency department visits and ambulatory surgeries. And, these data can be linked with detailed data on hospital services, staffing, and finances.
